My desire to serve the community in which I grew up in, has always been important to me. I have worked at overdose prevention sites, harm reduction residential facilities, suicide crisis lines, and employment family assistance program (EFAP). It’s been a privilege to work with such a diverse range of clients. Having lived experience as a first responder, I am aware of how trauma can profoundly impact the mind and body. I utilize a blend of evidence-based practices including humanistic culturally responsive and socially just approaches (CRSJ). I specialize in addiction, relationships, trauma, anxiety and depression.

Peace be on you dear readers. I really congratulate you for taking the first step: looking for a counsellor. Seeking counselling is a sign of strength. It means that you want to see changes in your life. You may be dealing with depression, anxiety, panic attack, and or relationship issues or you may need to talk to someone who will not judge you. I believe everyone has ability to solve their own problems, however, sometimes overwhelming situation makes us stuck in one point and hinder us to go forward. In those days we need someone listen to us, hold our hands and to go through our difficult times. I am here for you.

You dream of running away to somewhere quiet and hide from the world, like a cabin in the forest or the beach. You feel overwhelmed and burned out. You struggle to get out of bed every day and question your whole life. Everything is falling apart, and you know you can’t keep up. The pressure is too much. Maybe you pushed so far that you got chronically ill, like chronic fatigue, fibromyalgia, or depression. You ask yourself, “How did I get here?” You know something must change, but the task feels daunting. Where do you even begin?

“ I believe sharing our stories about our personal experiences can awaken our awareness, stretch our hearts, and help us heal” Do you feel like you are on a path of self sabotage and feel stuck? Do you live mostly in your head where it is noisy and chaotic? I believe you can transform negative limiting beliefs, never ending fears and uncertainties. I want to help you build the skill to make healthier choices in relationships, jobs and lifestyle that don’t drain the life out of you. I know it takes courage to reach out for help. I promise I am easy to talk to and aim to make therapy both an enjoyable and forward moving process.

Trauma leaves us feeling broken, damaged, and disconnected from our true selves. You may be fed up with feeling triggered in everyday situations, isolated from friends who can’t understand, or guilt over what happened to you. You may not even remember a time you didn’t feel like this. Either way, one thing is for sure: you’re ready for some relief. You’re ready to enjoy deep relationships without your past getting in the way. You’re ready to wake up each morning with purpose. Most of all, you’re ready to love yourself again & to face your future with a sense of hope.

We all struggle at times. Whether it is a low mood that lingers too long, or anxiety that inhibits your life. Feeling like a failure, a bad parent, or like you just do not feel at home in your skin can start to feel like it poisons everything. Confidence dwindles, emotions feel too unpredictable, or stress seems to get under your skin more than it used to. You may be finding that your close relationships are more stressful than they used to be. Life may feel like it’s getting smaller and smaller. You know something has to change. It is time to reach out for help.

The primary focus of my practice is supporting individuals who are feeling stuck in life. Together we explore the often invisible yet powerful forces (internal and external) that can shape our lives and move us away from our values and toward distress. We also explore the benefit of using emotion to guide us toward values and a greater sense of peace. Over the course of therapy my clients engage in guided self reflection and generally experience a gradual unfolding of insight, the illumination of a meaningful path forward, and the courage to move through fear in service to their preferred future.

The clients coming into my practice are diverse; from mid-twenties to mid-sixties, from various cultural background, and in need of help to heal from trauma, grief, phobias, relationship challenges, depression and anxiety. My clients really appreciate the powerful, transformative experiential exercises that are part of my therapeutic modalities. And when appropriate, I weave in professional coaching so that clients not only heal, but they are optimally supported into their new vision of themselves and the life they really want to create.

Life taught me that unexpected circumstances are opportunities for self-discovery and growth. A good therapeutic relationship is key to feeling comfortable in counselling. While psychotherapy can include a variety of evidence-based treatment approaches, finding a therapist that is the right fit for your style and needs is very important. Research shows that the client-counsellor rapport can be just as therapeutic as the type of therapy. Clients can expect a friendly, calm person working with curiosity, respect and openness. I am here to listen to you without judgment and with a genuine desire to support your growth and wellbeing.

Although the adults whom I assist come with a wide range of presenting problems - such as sexual dysfunctions, mental health issues, relationship conflict, and addictions, the underlying problem is that we are all suffering emotionally, longing to feel understood, and to acquire the tools that will relieve our distress.

Hi, I'm Scott! I have spent the past 18 years in Vancouver as a therapist working with children, youth, families and adults struggling with mental health issues, substance use, trauma, anger, grief, as well as isolation and disconnection. I have volunteered working with young offenders in the prison system, and with suicidal individuals through the services of the Vancouver Crisis Centre. Connectedness plays an important role in both my personal and professional life. At times, finding similar thoughts and opinions has helped me feel human. Other times, seeking different ideas and people has helped open my mind to new possibilities.

Sometimes, life can feel very heavy, and I believe that being hard on ourselves is the first thing we tend to do, while it might be the last thing we actually need. Is there uncertainty in the direction of your life? Do you feel stressed and anxious? Learning to be kind and compassionate towards yourself is where everything begins. I offer a non-judgemental space where you feel heard, and we can collaborate together. Sharing your life challenges with someone you feel comfortable with can be the first step towards healing.

FAQs - About Therapy and Counselling

How can I find a therapist in Vancouver?

Search for nearby therapists or counsellors by inputting your city, postal code, or a provider’s name into the search bar. From there, you can filter providers by the issues they treat, cost, insurance, gender, and other factors to find providers who are well-suited to your needs. To navigate between locations within the same country, enter a new city or postal code into the search bar.

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

Most Counsellors and Psychotherapists listed in the directory are certified by one of the main professional associations, mainly the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association (CCPA), and will have a Certified Canadian Counsellor (CCC) designation with their name. Social Workers listed in the directory must be registered members of the college specific to their province. To be listed in the directory, Psychologists must be registered with the psychological college specific to their province or territory.

Providers whose professional membership or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Given the considerable variation in professional regulation and prerequisites across Canadian provinces, some providers may possess significant professional qualifications without necessarily holding professional memberships or being obliged to acquire them. As a result, they may be selectively included without the "Verified" seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counsellor?

Psychologists, counsellors, psychotherapists and social workers can all provide counselling or talking therapy and have credentials and supervised, practical experience that enable them to do so in Canada.

Psychologists have a master's and/or doctoral degree and have passed both written and oral exams. Psychologists are able to complete mental health assessments and provide diagnostic information to clients as well as provide counselling therapy or psychotherapy. Counsellors and psychotherapists are expected to have a master's or doctoral degree in counselling psychology, social work, or a related mental health discipline and certification by a professional association, such as the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association. Registered Social Workers possess a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Social Work and where possible must be licensed or certified by the provincial government and/or regulatory college.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

How much does therapy cost?

The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, the cost of a therapy session in Canada could be between $100 and $200. If you have insurance, the expense of mental health care is typically lower, but it varies based on your insurance plan details and whether you choose an in-network or out-of-network mental healthcare provider.

What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?

Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.

If you are struggling to access therapy due to budget constraints, you could also consider public funded mental health services. Some types of outpatient mental health services are covered by Medicare, provided these are performed by a licensed mental health professional in the provinces or territory you reside in and who accepts the assignment.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your postal code.

Are therapy sessions confidential?

Professionals licensed by regulatory colleges and those certified by associations such as the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association are obligated to uphold client confidentiality unless there is a legal reason that requires them to disclose information. Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship and only under specific circumstances, such as when there is the potential or known harm to the client or others, or a court order, will a therapist be obligated to break the agreement. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed during the initial consultation.
